Interviewing Musician Luke Prosser
My name is Luke Prosser, a young man saved by the power of Jesus Christ, who’s music has been described by one kind friend along the lines of “ An individual Renaissance of the language of dream”
Thank you Paul for the opportunity! Here you go!
Paul Collins--Tell us about your backgrounds. Who you are? Where are your from?
Luke Prosser -- Well I’m Luke Prosser I suppose a child of God thanks to Jesus Christ, and a miracle baby at that. Guess my origins are Mississauga, and really the GTA , I’ve lived all over the GTA from Brampton to Hamilton To Toronto so that’s been homebase for a very long time.
Paul Collins--What themes does your music explore and what do you hope the listener will take away from the experience? Is there a particular feeling or experience that you hope to evoke in the listener?
Luke Prosser -- Biggest theme is the pursuit of a relationship with God, as he pursues you in return and all the messy ness that happens along the way. Secondly would definitely be recovery, the struggle to deal with guilt, the past, addictions and mental issues, the ongoing trial and the pain of seeing those you love in downwards spirals, whilst grasping for the silver lining.
Paul Collins-- What prompted any of you to be a musician. Did you have any specific inspirations in mind? Were any of you influenced by a certain person, artist, or genre?
Luke Prosser -- I always remember writing from a very young age. That came first, then like probably all little kids I loved dancing to music, realizing music combined multiple arts I enjoyed made me desire it even more. Honestly I’ve had so many influences I wouldn’t know where to begin as far as professionals go, but my older brother was definitely a first inspiration, I grew up thinking he was the coolest, and it was really cause of him I realized I could sing, though not well, and that it didn’t matter how well you sounded always.
Paul Collins-- If you could compare your music to any other existing works, which ones would it be and why?
Luke Prosser -- I guess Leonard Cohen, and Bill Fay, both are melancholy and sort of sweet but sad, and talk about God a lot. Bill Fay is definitely a believer and Leonard Cohen I think wrestled a lot with God and the deeper questions about him in his music.
Paul Collins-- Tell us about your latest music and what inspired you.
Luke Prosser -- I’m trying to put together an album called Suffering and Hope, based upon the verse from the Bible that says “ But we rejoice in our sufferings, for suffering produces endurance, endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame etc..”
Paul Collins--Where can listeners obtain a copy of your music for them to enjoy? How can they contact you with any thoughts or questions? And do you have a means by which they can “sign up” to be notified when you make more music.
Luke Prosser -- Unfortunately it’s all online right now nothing physical yet. You can put Luke Prosser into Spotify, Bandcamp, and Apple or any major music streaming service and I’ll show up! Also YouTube, though there’s a guy from England with the same name on YouTube, he’s good too! Also check out the Instagram @lukeprosserluke as well for updates.
